Credentialing for Affiliates is a two-step process. It begins with the UCSF Health Care Network Pre-Vetting process, during which a quick background check is used to clear the provider for credentialing. This is followed by the UCSF Office of Medical Affairs and Governance Credentialing process. During the pre-vetting process, you may ask your provider applicants to begin gathering the information in the credentialing checklist.
The entire application process averages 120 days for most providers, with additional time at the end for payer enrollment. Many steps in the application/credentialing process are dependent on the timely submission of completed documents and quick responses to inquiries.
To ensure that applications are processed as quickly as possible, please do the following:
- Keep in mind that applicants who do not meet the criteria on the fast track checklist may not be expedited.
- Use the checklist to ensure that the applicant has gathered all the documentation necessary.
- Use the timeline calculator below to determine when to submit an application in order to make a particular start date.
- Fill out all documents completely and clearly. Do not leave sections blank, omit information, or include ambiguous statements.
- Watch for emails from UCSF Health Care Network or the UCSF Office of Medical Affairs and Governance, and respond as soon as possible. Advise applicants to do the same.

Note that the dates below are guidelines, not firm commitments, and depend on how quickly the candidate responds to our inquiries and whether or not any issues show up in their files. In general, candidates that meet the fast track criteria will proceed through this timeline more quickly than candidates who do not.
